Computers will mark NAPLAN in 2017???

Okay now here is a good example of where ICTs should NOT be used.  It was mentioned in one of the moodle books that in 2017, NAPLAN writing tasks will be marked by computers and I just could not believe it! I mean, this is just my opinion but how in the world can a computer mark a student’s writing capability?? I don’t understand how a computer could ever replace a person in marking a writing task on any sort of test.  Computers are not able to make educated judgement calls on students writing and they are not able to decipher every student’s writing.  We cannot fully trust that a computer will give the correct mark for a writing task.  Sorry about the rant, but I just had to get this of my chest.

What in the world is a Permalink???

Well throughout this course I feel like I have made leaps and bounds with ICTs, seeing as I was one of those people who hated using computers and had no idea how to even find ICT resources let alone use them lol.  But as I find out every single day, I still have sooo much more to learn about technology and this is just a simple example.  I came across an article that provided a PDF file of a “Glossary of Blogging Terminology” and it had words in there that I had never even heard of before.  So I thought that I should share this article with the world just in case there is anyone else who is in my shoes. Happy reading!

Next Level storytelling?

I have just posted a blog about an App that I used during prac that helped students re-enact their own narrative through recording their own voices and using different characters and backdrops.  But I think I may have found something even better than that, which I can hopefully try in the future.  I cam across this article that describes three different Apps that allows teachers and students to create green screen videos of themselves.  I thought this would be great for a narrative unit and students could be the characters, but it can also be a great resource for teachers to make better presentations.

Great App for Storytelling

Hi all, I just wanted to share this awesome App that I found while I was on Professional Experience called Puppet Pals.  It is this great App where you can select different characters and backdrops, then you can act out a story by moving the characters around and recording your voice.  You can even get the students to draw their own characters and backdrops and upload them onto the App and use their own characters and backdrops in a story.  I used this App with my class on prac, during their english narrative unit, and it was so great! The students loved being able to narrate their own story using their own characters and at the end they can save the story and show it to others as well.

Being a Teacher is Hard Work!

The title says it all to be honest.  Just being on the 3 week Professional Experience felt so tiring with late nights trying to complete lesson plans and prepare resources for each lesson, AND on top of that trying to incorporate ICTs into it as well! I have to admit that like Nicole who posted about congratulating the people who still posted their blogs during prac, that I was not even thinking about blogging at all during Professional Experience.  My mind was just trying to get through each lesson and making sure I don’t mess anything up lol.  So yes I definitely applaud the people who had it all together enough to be able to post blogs up whilst still on prac. BRAVO!! 🙂

Flip Slide and Turn Song

During my Professional Experience I was asked to introduce flips slides and turns to the class as a part of their maths unit.  I was trying to think of ways to teach students a fun way to remember how to flip slide and turn an object and I came across this YouTube Clip of a class in America who had made up a great dance to remember flips slides and turns.  I did not have enough time to teach the students in my class this dance but I wanted to share it because I think it is such a great idea to turn such a boring concept into a fun dance that students will definitely remember in the future.

TPACK Framework

Thank you Rebel for sharing this YouTube clip that explains the TPACK Framework in an easy to understand way.  I have been trying find some resources to help me further understand the TPACK Framework because it does confuse me a little (mostly just because there are so many different educational Frameworks that are thrown at us).  I just wanted to add to Rebel’s YouTube Clip that she has found and share a clip that I have found that explains the TPACK Framework as well.  You can find it here and I thought this clip made the TPACK Framework really simple to understand!!
